James Edward LANCASTER

James Edward (Jim) LANCASTER and his brother, John Thomas came to Texas after their father, Anderson (Anson) LANCASTER died Jan., 1870.  James and John left their home in the Webster-Betheden area of Winston Co., Mississippi with their Uncle Samuel IVY (their Mother's brother).  They settled in Van Zandt County, TX. in the community of Martins Mill.  It is not known why they settled in Van Zandt Co., TX in the community of Martins Mill.  It is not know why they came to this area but Jim often talked to his children about how difficult times were after the Civil War and their father's death.  He said that he and his brother John often had only crumbs from the table to eat.

James was b. 30 Jan., 1857, Winston Co., MS, d. 25 Jan., 1940, buried Tidmore Cemetery.  He married Margaret C. (Maggie) 25 Dec., 1878, Martins Mill, TX.

2. John Thomas LANCASTER b. 9 Sep., 1883, Martins Mill, TX, d. 6 Jan., 1975, Dallas, TX, married Katherine Amelia Debora (Kate) DAMM.
3. James Howell LANCASTER, b. 11 Apr., 1885. Martins Mill, TX, d. 1 July, 1955, Martins Mill, TX, married Annie Ben HAZLEWOOD, 26 Mar., 1905, Martins Mill, TX.
4. Bradford LANCASTER b. 27 Aug., 1889, Martins Mill, TX. d. 27 Oct., 1979, Quinlan, Hunt, TX, married Maude Lee SIMPSON 28 Jan., 1912.

Maggie MAYFIELD d. about 1890. Jim married about 1893 to Emma YOES.

1. Dee LANCASTER b. 1895, d. as a child, result of an accident.
2. Willie Gadsen LANCASTER b. 14 May, 1896, d. 17 Sep., 1967, married Fannie Ophelia DAMM (sister of Kate).
3. Virgil LANCASTER b. May, 1900, married Millie Ann PILGRIM.
4. Connie LANCASTER b. 11 June, 1903, living in Vinita, OK.
5. Child died at birth, name unknown

Anderson served in the Civil War as a private in Co. D, Perrin's Regiment.  This company was at Jackson, MS when Vicksburg fell.  A brief account of this company's service is given in the Centennial History of Winston County by William Terrell LEWIS.

7. Jane IVY b. 1828, Union, SC., married James BAGWELL.
8. Thomas IVY b. 1830, Union, SC., married Adeline LANCASTER, 15 Apr., 1860, Winston, MS.
9. Ann Sebella IVY b. 1833, Union Co., SC, d. 1860, married Anderson (Anson) LANCASTER, 13 Jan., 1850.
10. William IVY b. 1837, AL.
